Pumpkin Dessert

A roommate made this recipe years ago and it has been my favorite pumpkin dessert ever since. The recipe is often requested and seconds often eaten.
1 large can evaporated milk
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
Mix.

1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Add to liquid.

1 (29 oz) can pumpkin solid pack
Add to above. Stir to combine. Pour in greased 9x13 pan.

1 pound cake or yellow cake mix
Sprinkle on top of pumpkin.
3/4 cup butter

1/2 - 1 cup chopped walnuts, opt.
Thinly slice butter and lay across the cake mix. Sprinkle with walnuts.

Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until browned. Let cool slightly. Serve warm topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
